Pancake breakfast

The Board of Deacons at Beulah Presbyterian Church will be serving the 19th Annual Pancake Breakfast on Oct. 21. Hours are from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., with a menu of fruit, buttermilk or buckwheat pancakes and Parma sausage. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 4-11 (kids under 4 eat for free). Tickets will be sold Sundays in October and at the door, at 2500 McCrady Road, Churchill. Proceeds benefit the deacons’ ministry.

Trunk or treats

• Penn Hills Masonic Lodge (Infinity Lodge No. 546) is partnering with Verona’s Masonic Lodge (Verona Lodge No. 548) to host a Trunk or Treat 5-7 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Penn Hills Masonic Center, 5793 Saltsburg Road, Verona. For more information, visit infinity freemasons.com.

• Hebron Community Center’s Trunk or Treat will be from 3-5 p.m. Oct. 28 at the center at 10460 Frankstown Road in Penn Hills. Admission is free, but spaces need to be reserved to host or sponsor a trunk.

Service open to public

Penn Hills & Verona Volunteer Fire Association will have a firefighter memorial service at 2 p.m. Oct. 15 at Rolling Hills Church, 120 Gernert Drive in Verona. A luncheon will follow the service. Email info@phvfd222.org to RSVP by Oct. 1.

Volunteers needed

Verona parks and recreation board needs a few volunteers to join as alternate members of the board. Email admin@veronaborough.org for more information.

Car cruise planned

Verona Chamber of Commerce’s 27th annual car cruise is scheduled for 4-7 p.m. Oct. 7 at Railroad Park. More than 100 vehicles are expected to be on display. More information is available online at verona-pa.org.

PALS

Plum Area Ladies Society will hold its monthly meeting Oct.4 at Plum Community Center, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The speaker will be Colleen from Silver Sneakers, who will lecture us on fall prevention and safer ways to fall. The service project is to donate personal hygiene items to Westmoreland Project Head Start. Needed items include toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, combs, deodorant (for both men and women) bubble bath, kids’ socks and underwear. Donations of paper products and cash are also being collected for the Plum Food Pantry.

The Ladies Day Out will be an outdoor walking Guided Tour of Depreciation Lands Museum, a colonial era living history village, on Oct. 15 at 1:30. The $10 donation for this tour may be paid at the meeting.

The theme for the refreshments and friendship basket will be “A Taste of Fall.”

PALS is a service/social club open to women from Plum, Penn Hills, Monroeville and surrounding communities. Newcomers are welcome to come to a meeting, always held at 6:30 on the first Wednesday of the month at Plum Community Center. For more information, call Mary Lou at 724-327-8265.

Transportation sought

Penn Hills School District officials approved seeking proposals for student transportation services. Proposals are due to the administrative office at 260 Aster St. by 1 p.m. Oct. 11. The current contract with Krise Transportation is set to expire June 30, 2024.
