The Rosedale Civic Association and Rosedale Volunteer Fire Department #2 will have a carnival from June 30 through July 3.
The carnival is from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Rosedale VFD #2, located at 5806 Verona Road, Verona, PA 15147.

Student news
• Ellen Kuszajewski was among more than 100 students whose academic work was showcased during the Baldwin Wallace University Ovation 2021 Day of Excellence. Kuszajewski, a graduate of Oakland Catholic High School, presented a project titled “Neural Correlates of Emotional-Cognition in Children and Adolescents: A Two-Part Study.”
Each spring, the Day of Excellence recognizes student success in research, scholarship, experiential learning, the arts and more. Participants must complete the submission process and have a faculty mentor sponsor their work and give approval to present. This year, the Day of Excellence featured exceptional student work from every school of the university through virtual presentations that allowed viewers to ask questions and provide feedback.
• Jamie Gatesman earned the Applied Psychology Award, Research Recognition Award and Service Recognition Award at John Carroll University for the Spring 2021 semester. The Applied Psychology Award is given in recognition of substanial contribution in psychology. The Research Recognition Award is given in recognition of students who have been involved in psychological research in substantial ways either in collaboration with faculty and/or independently. The Service Recognition Award is given in recognition of stubstantial service to the psychology department, the university and/or the community at large, during their tenure as students in the psychology department.
• Joslyn Sobek was inducted into the Sigma Delta Pi Spanish National Honor Society. Inducted students must have completed three years of study of college-level Spanish, including a 300-level course in Hispanic literature or civilization/culture, and have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 with a GPA of 3.0 in all Spanish courses taken.
• Emily Bauer, Elizabeth Danley, Kaitlin Gionta and Luke Greenway were named to the dean’s list for the Spring 2021 semester at Grove City College.
• Elizabeth Danley (Bachelor of Science, accounting and finance) and Kaitlin Gionta (Bachelor of Arts, English and secondary education certification) were among 556 who received degrees from Grove City College on May 15.
• Jasmine Z Allen (communication studies), Reginald Glenn Taylor (fine arts-applied media arts) and Stephanie Sipple (psychology) were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2021 semester at Edinboro University. In order to attain dean’s list status, students must maintain a GPA of 3.4 or higher, complete a minimum of 12 semester hours of credit and receive no grade lower than a C in any course.
Library fundraiser
Penn Hills Library Foundation will offer a fundraising concert with River City Brass Ensemble playing Patriotic-themed selections.
The event will be from 3 to 5 p.m. June 27 in the top parking lot of the library.
Donations are $25 per car and only 45 spaces are available. Tickets can be purchased only at the circulation desk of the library from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Payment can be made by cash or check to Penn Hills Library Foundation.
There will be food and beverages available to purchase, and a raffle will be offered. Arrive early so the concert can start on time. Cars can arrive starting at 2:30 p.m.
The rain date is from 6 to 8 p.m. June 29 with arrival time starting at 5:30.

Summerfest
The sixth annual Summerfest will be Aug. 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Friendship Park.
Join for a fun-filled community event featuring music, food trucks, a petting zoo and a free children’s activity area.
Zambelli Fireworks to follow at 9:20 p.m.
Summer Movie Series
The Penn Hills Summer Movie Series is set, with movies beginning at dusk. The event is free to attend each month.
Rolling Hills Church will provide free snacks. The movies to be shown are:
• July 9: “Tom & Jerry” at Universal Park
• Aug. 13: “Godzilla vs Kong” at Friendship Park
• Sept. 10: “Spongebob: Sponge on the Run” at Friendship Park
Neighborhood yard sale
The Crescent Hills neighborhood will have a neighborhoodwide yard sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 12. Many of the homes throughout the neighborhood will be participating. See Crescent Hills Civic Assocition’s Facebook page for more information.
Class reunion
The Penn Hills High School Class of 1976 will hold its 45th reunion June 25-27.
There will be a buffet dinner at 7 p.m. June 25 at the Comfort Inn Grand Ballroom, 180 Gamma Drive. Tickets are $45 each until May 21. Rooms are $80 each at the group rate.
On June 26, the class is gathering from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Rosedale Beach Club, 5407 Third St., to swim and socialize.
Nonmembers can enter as guests for $5. No advanced ticket or reservations are needed.
On June 27, there will be a live band and cash bar at the Fox Chapel Baja Club from 1 to 6 p.m.
The Nieds Hotel Band, a Penn Hills-rooted band, will be holding a fundraiser. A voluntary donation is suggested at the door.
Women’s Business Network
The Women’s Business Network is an award-winning business association that supports the success and growth of women in business. All professional women are welcome to attend a meeting at no cost.
