Dawn Golden has been named as interim superintendent at Penn Hills School District after Nancy Hines retired with more than 25 years in public education.

Hines announced her retirement in August, and the search for a new superintendent is underway.

“We just started (the search),” school board president Erin Vecchio said. “(Pennsylvania School Board Association) is coming in to start interviewing people. They’re assisting us with finding a new superintendent.”

Board members chose Golden to act as the interim superintendent because of her experience as the assistant superintendent. Vecchio said that Golden already had experience with the district and knew what was going on in the building.

“She was the best candidate,” Vecchio said.

According to Golden, she was offered a stipend of $100 a day on top of her existing annual salary of $125,000 for the interim role.

Golden is on the list of interviewees for the position. Vecchio said that interviews are underway.
