Crash leads to power outage, closes busy Penn Hills road

A portion of a busy road in Penn Hills was forced to close and left some residents without power for a time early Thursday after a vehicle hit and knocked over a utility pole.

Allegheny County 911 dispatchers said no one was taken to the hospital from the crash.

The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. in the 500 block of Beulah Road.

The crash knocked out power to local residents, but Tribune-Review news partner WPXI reports power had been restored by 6 a.m.

WPXI reports that traffic is getting by in a single lane on Beulah Road, between Frankstown and Long roads. Penn Hills Police said the delays could extend throughout the morning and into the afternoon.

Police charge man with attempted homicide

Pittsburgh police said they have arrested a man wanted in connection to a South Side shooting from October.

Wednesday after they said they determined his claim of being shot earlier this week was false.

On Sunday, police responded to the 1200 block of Superior Avenue in the city’s Marshall-Shadeland neighborhood when a man reported he had been shot. On Wednesday, police said they had determined the gunshot wound was accidental and self-inflicted.

Despite a false identification given by the man, detectives said they were able to determine he was Nicklas Gay, 35.

Gay was arrested and charged with criminal attempted homicide, firearms not to be carried without a license and persons not to possess a firearm.

Water main break causes road closure in Mt. Lebanon

A portion of a Mt. Lebanon road was closed early Thursday for a water main break.

The break occurred on Bower Hill Road at Cochran Road and the section is closed to traffic. Water has been turned off in the area.

Brent Robinson of Pennsylvania American Water told Tribune-Review news partner WPXI that crews are expected to start repairs around 7 a.m.
