Morning Roundup: Penn Hills police seek info on armed robber; it's college move-in time again
Here are some of the latest news items from this morning, Thursday, Aug. 14, 2025:
Penn Hills police seek pizza shop robber
Penn Hills police are seeking information on a suspect who committed an armed robbery Aug. 9 at Pasquale’s Pizzeria along Saltsburg Road.
Restaurant staff turned over surveillance video and screenshots of the suspect, a white male.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Penn Hills police tip line at 412-342-0922.
College move-in dates in Pittsburgh
It’s about to be busy in and around Pittsburgh-area colleges, as freshmen prepare to move in, followed shortly by the rest of the student body. Here are move-in dates for local schools:
• Duquesne University: Freshmen move in on Aug. 19; honors college freshmen will move in on Aug. 18.
• University of Pittsburgh, Oakland: Students move in Aug. 17-22.
• Carnegie Mellon: Freshmen move in Aug. 16. Returning students move in Aug. 20-24.
• Chatham University: Freshmen move in Aug. 20. Returning students move in Aug. 23.
• Point Park University: Freshmen honors and Conservatory of Performing Arts students move in Aug. 16-17. All other first-year students move in Aug. 18-19. All other students move in Aug. 21-23.
• Carlow University: Freshmen will move in Aug. 20. Returning students will move in Aug. 23.
• Robert Morris University: Freshmen will move in Aug. 21. Returning students will move in Aug. 22-24.
Truck partially overturned Downtown
Pittsburgh police are blocking the Stanwix Street ramp to the Parkway East after a tractor-trailer partially overturned around 6:30 a.m. Thursday.
Video from TribLive news partner WTAE shows the trailer of a rig overturned near Exit 70C of the Parkway East (Interstate 376).
WTAE said no injuries were reported.
Water main break in Stowe
Island Avenue will be partially closed Thursday because of a water main break in Stowe Township.
TribLive news partner WTAE reports the break happened early in the morning.
Island Avenue will be restricted to one lane between Kennedy Street and Tunnel Way as crews work to repair the break.
