Penn Hills Elementary School is getting a window makeover.
On Oct. 30, board members approved the purchase and use of security window film, a safety measure that will add school spirit and peace of mind to the school off Jefferson Road.
According to Christopher Cence, the school’s principal, no specific event prompted the purchase. He said it will provide some extra security to the building.
“There’s a lot of windows in the front of the building,” Cence said. “This film will allow us to still see out but not people to see inside of the building.”
The film is designed with school spirit in mind. It will feature the Penn Hills School District emblem, the letters PHES will be on each door, and the school’s mantra — “responsible, respectful, safe, kind” — will be written above the entry doors.
“It will definitely add some curb appeal,” Cence said. “It’ll be nice looking. Whenever you see it, it’ll be the face of the building but at the same time it does protect the people inside of the building.”
Riverview, Plum and Hempfield school districts also utilize security film.
“I think it brings a cleaner look to the elementary school,” Cence said. “All of our expectations are going to be on the front of it along with our PH symbol.”
The project will cost $6,750.95 out of the district’s Safety and Security budget. The film will be installed in November.
