There truly was only one way to celebrate a fashion milestone for this designer — on the runway.

Cary D. Heard, creator of CDH LABEL Clothing Co., hosted the Fierce, Fly & Fabulous Fifteen Year Anniversary Fashion Expo on Sept. 13 inside the Triveni Center ballroom in Monroeville. Nearly 200 guests attended.

The evening included 20 models on the catwalk wearing designs from three collections. The first was “For the People,” which featured streetwear and included T-shirts and textiles such as leather, fringe, cotton and silky polyester.

The “Iridescent Elegance” collection embodied a mix of orange hues and denim and “The Golden Standard” epitomized the essence of being a boss. Each look reflected the confidence and style of leadership.

There was a live spoken word performance by Jessii Marie, CEO of Imprinted by Jessii.

Also performing was singer Oddessi, known for rhythm and blues.

The evening also was Heard’s 32nd birthday. The Penn Hills resident said there was no way he could have had such as successful show without the help of his parents, Cary Heard Sr. and Kim Heard, and the people he calls his “dream team,” which includes his partner, Terrance McGeorge, administrative assistant Kevin Brown, lighting designer Kevin Dietrick and model organizer Tanisha Thomas.

“I would like to thank each and every one of you for coming out tonight to support me and my dreams,” said Heard, who studied at Kent State University for fashion design.

He partnered with Project Matters, an LGBTQIA+ organization that serves Pittsburgh’s Black gay community through events and mentorship.

Heard founded CDH Label Clothing Co. in 2010. He specializes in custom garments for weddings, proms and special occasions and also has a streetwear collection.
