A Penn Hills couple was receiving help from the Red Cross Wednesday after a fire claimed their two cats and Ross Road home.

Penn Hills Fire Marshal Chuck Miller said firefighters responded to the blaze at a modular home across from Ross Park around 10:10 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicated it was accidental and started on a porch. No injuries were reported.

Miller said firefighters had to lay about 1,100 feet of hose to get to the nearest hydrant, and crews had to deal with some icy conditions during the ordeal. Firefighters and public works crews salted the roads.

The home is believed to be a total loss. The fire remains under investigation.
