Penn Hills School District is mourning the loss of one of its high school students.
Sophomore Victor Adeleke died on Thanksgiving, according to a post on the district’s officials Facebook page.
“Our entire school community is heartbroken by this tragic loss,” the Friday evening post read.
“We extend our deepest condolences to Victor’s family, friends, classmates and all who knew and cared for him. Losing a young member of our community is an unimaginable pain, and we grieve together as a district.
“In the coming days, additional counseling and support services will be available for students and staff who may need them. Please keep Victor’s family in your thoughts as they navigate this incredibly difficult time.”
Superintendent John Mozzocio reached late Friday referred to the district statement. He declined to disclose more details about the student such as participation in high school clubs or extra curriculars.
“It’s a shame that this happened,” said school board president Erin Vecchio on Friday evening. “It’s a great loss to our school district community.”
Vecchio also declined to discuss student details other than everyone on the board and in the district offering their thoughts and prayers to Victor’s family.
Classes are expected to resume Tuesday following the holiday break.
