Penn Hills High School’s Odyssey of the Mind team recently earned awards at a statewide competition.

Students in the group were Chloe Campbell, Sophia Corona, Logan Depew, David Lubawski, Zoeie Morgan and Katie Russell.

They competed against other schools in the Pennsylvania State Odyssey of the Mind Association’s state finals tournament earlier this month at Pocono Mountain East High School in Monroe County. At least 180 teams from across the state participated.

The Penn Hills team created a sophisticated system of self-programmed circuit boards, controlled by a keyboard, that operated a variety of set and prop pieces in their solution to a problem.

They earned first and second place as well as a Ranatra Fusca award, which is bestowed for extremely exceptional creativity and risk-taking.
