A Penn Hills man accused of violating his probation after police say he beat a woman and drove over her leg as he fled has been taken into custody, the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Dayon Damon Caldwell, 25, of the 300 block of Fielding Drive pleaded guilty in 2020 to a felony count of aggravated assault and five other charges filed by Penn Hills police and was sentenced to five years of probation, according to court records.

Caldwell violated the terms of his parole, authorities said, when Robinson police charged him Sept. 1 with felony counts of aggravated assault, theft and receiving stolen property along with six other charges, court records show.

He is being detained in the Allegheny County Jail to await preliminary arraignment, according to court records.

Robinson police wrote in a criminal complaint that officers were dispatched to a home in the Groveton Village apartment complex for a domestic dispute.

The woman told police that Caldwell was drinking heavily when they began arguing and then began striking her, the complaint said.

Police noted the woman had a swollen left eye and cuts on her arms and legs. She told investigators that she fell while trying to stop Caldwell from driving off in her vehicle and her left leg was run over.

The county Sheriff’s Office said detectives learned he had returned to the house on Groveton Drive, but they were told he wasn’t there when they checked.

But police searched the house and found him in an upstairs bedroom and arrested him without incident, the Sheriff’s Office said.
