Penn Hills man dies days after shooting in Pittsburgh's Lawrenceville neighborhood
A Penn Hills man who was shot Oct. 6 in Pittsburgh’s Lawrenceville neighborhood has died.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed late Saturday the death of Malcolm I. Nowlin, 26, in an area hospital following the incident in the 4100 block of Butler Street.
The office listed the time of death on the afternoon of Oct. 8.
Nowlin’s godfather posted on social media that a decision was made to take Nowlin off life support on Saturday morning with the hope that he would continue breathing on his own.
In a later post, he reported that Nowlin “has gone to be with the Lord” and asked for prayers for his family members.
Silky’s Pub, an eatery on Pittsburgh’s Liberty Avenue where Nowlin was employed, posted that it is collecting funds this weekend to benefit Nowlin’s family and will make a donation to the cause based on sales of a menu item named in his honor, Malcolm’s Patty Melt.
“This world was a better place with Malcolm in it, and his positivity and genuine spirit will stay with us all,” the business said in the post.
Officials have not reported making any arrest in the shooting. Police said witnesses described a possible altercation before the victim was shot in the head.
TribLive news partner WTAE reported the shooting occurred while Nowlin was working a second job, providing security at Dijlah, a restaurant and hookah lounge.
