Penn Hills officials have released resources for residents during this week’s extreme heat warning in Allegheny County.
“Extreme heat often results in the highest annual number of deaths among all weather-related disasters,” said a release from the township.
The Penn Hills Library on Stotler Road is open Monday until 8 p.m. as a cooling center. The Municipal Government Center and the Senior Services Center are also open as cooling centers.
Officials warned people to stay hydrated and watch for heat illnesses, such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
They recommended staying cool in any way possible such as staying in air conditioning and wearing light clothing. Check up on family and neighbors, avoid strenuous activity and do not leave people or pets in closed cars.
