Penn Hills police are investigating a crash that sent two people to the hospital, with one driver switching cars and leaving the scene.

Police Chief Howard Burton said the two-vehicle head-on crash took place Friday shortly after 11 p.m. along Frankstown Road near the Lime Hollow Road intersection.

A woman traveling eastbound along Frankstown was moving into the turning lane to go onto Lime Hollow when a man driving in the opposite direction crossed over into oncoming traffic and struck her car in an attempt to pass another vehicle at the intersection, the chief reported.

The woman was treated for minor injuries, but the chief said her passenger suffered a broken neck.

Burton said both were taken to a hospital for further evaluation.

The other driver left his vehicle, got into another car and drove off.

Burton said police have identified the man, who faces multiple charges including fleeing the scene of an accident. Police have declined to release the driver’s information.

Burton said the investigation is ongoing and more charges are likely to follow.

Anyone with information about the crash can contact Penn Hills police at 412-342-1188.
