Two people are in jail after a SWAT situation and car chase through Penn Hills Saturday night.

Pittsburgh Police and responded to the 5900 block of Second Avenue in Hazelwood after a man called and said he had been robbed at gunpoint by a man and woman and had his handgun stolen, around 5:30 p.m.

SWAT and EMS tactical medics headed to the scene after hearing that the suspects were possibly barricaded inside a home on Second Avenue. Penn Hills Police officers spotted the suspects’ vehicle shortly after in Penn Hills and pursued them.

During the chase, a Penn Hills officer crashed his vehicle, and Pittsburgh Police picked up the pursuit. The officer was not seriously injured.

The suspects’ vehicle eventually rolled over at the intersection of Verona Road and 3rd Street in Penn Hills. The man and woman inside were arrested and police found a gun with them. The original caller identified the two suspects, and they were taken to the hospital to be medically cleared before being taken to the Allegheny County Jail.

Search warrants are being obtained for both the residence and the suspects’ vehicle, and the investigation is ongoing.
