A Penn Hills man was arrested after allegedly driving through a group of protesters Wednesday afternoon.

Police Chief Howard Burton said several people were gathered near the intersection of Saltsburg and Stotler roads when a man drove his vehicle through the crowd. No injuries were reported.

Burton said officers spoke with the man and the protesters that evening, and he was arrested Thursday.

The chief said police are reviewing footage from a media helicopter that was flying in the area as part of their investigation.

The man’s name has not yet been released. He’s being charged with aggravated assault by a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment and multiple traffic violations.

Burton said that a woman posted on Facebook about Penn Hills allegedly being a racist community, and people were protesting on her behalf.
