Primary election results for Penn Hills races

As of press time on May 18, 96% of Penn Hills precincts have fully reported vote counts for the primary election. Here are the unofficial results, according to the Allegheny County Office of Elections.

Mayor

Three Democrats sought their party’s nomination for mayor. Incumbent Pauline Calabrese received 2,778 votes, Qiana Buckner received 1,628 and current deputy mayor Frank Pecora received 1,274.

Council

Three Democrats vied for two spots on November’s ballot as candidates for council. Shawn Kerestus received 3,126 votes, Alan Waldron received 2,779 and incumbent Mark Brodnicki received 2,507.

Republican Clayton Walker ran unopposed in the primary.

School Board

Seven candidates ran for party nominations for school board. Five were cross-filed and two appeared on the Democratic ballot only: Heather Broman and Larry Choby.

Each party will advance five candidates to the general election.

On the Democratic ticket, Jackie Blakey-Tate received 3,463 votes, Heather Broman received 3,217, Erin Vecchio received 2,803, Devon Goetze received 2,515 and Robert Marra received 2,391.

As the results stand at press time, Meryl Thomas fell short of the Democratic nomination with 2,342 votes, and Larry Choby, who did not cross-file, will not appear in the general election with a total of 2,098 votes.

On the Republican ballot, Marra received 739 votes, Thomas received 650, Vecchio received 556, Goetze received 543 and Blakey-Tate received 473.
