A project to revitalize Rosedale Park in Penn Hills is closer to fruition courtesy of a local contribution.

The Penn Hills Rotary recently presented a $600 check to the Rosedale Civic Association, which has embarked on an estimated $150,000 upgrade effort to the recreation site next to the Rosedale Volunteer Fire Department.

Improvements include a new playground, walking trail, amphitheater, signage, parking lot paving and more handicap accessibility.

Rotary funds were raised at its Valentine Bingo event on Feb. 11.

“This was the first time we have worked with RCA and we hope to work with them again in the future,” said Rotary president-elect Tyler Tomasino. The park restoration project aligns perfectly with the Rotary’s vision of service above self. RCA is working to restore the park to create a safe recreation place for the residents in this area of Penn Hills to meet, play and exercise.”

The Rosedale Civic Association — formed in March 2020 — is made up of longtime Rosedale community members.

The group consists of 100 members and is broken down into subcommittees that focus on improvements in different parts of Rosedale and Penn Hills.

RCA president John Petrucci accepted the Rotary’s donation.

“Every little bit helps the RCA to get this revitalization done for the park,” he said. “I thank the Rotary. “This is a good thing happening for all the people of Rosedale.”

Upgrades to the park have been going on for the past few years, including a new entrance via Eagle Scout project in September 2020.

RCA also sponsored a carnival in late June to raise money for the project. The association had garnered about $87,000 as of mid-March through donations and grants.
