The Seneca Hills Village Singers at the Senior Seneca Living Facility in Penn Hills presented an hourlong concert on Veterans Day to remember those who served our country as members of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard.

Under the direction of Joseph Hajdu, the 13-member chorus sang patriotic songs, including “You’re a Grand Old Flag,” “Over There,” “The White Cliffs of Dover,” “My Country ’Tis of Thee” and “Let There Be Peace on Earth.”

There were several solo performances by residents: Gwen McNabb sang “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” while Dora Pryor covered “Soldier Boy” and Bob Grimes sang “America the Beautiful.”

Songs affiliated with each branch of the military also were shared.

During the concert, special recognition was given to honor the residents who served. Each veteran was presented with a certificate and a gold challenge coin from the fifth grade class at Redeemer Lutheran School in Oakmont. The students also sang a patriotic song.

Everyone in attendance was moved by their performance.
