A portion of Verona Road in Penn Hills closed Monday as crews began working on a slide remediation project, PennDOT announced.

The road will be closed all day and night between Lincoln and Coal Hollow roads.

Motorists will be detoured by taking Verona Road, Coal Hollow Road and Frankstown Road.

A second closure between Lincoln and Frankstown roads will occur after this initial phase, PennDOT said.

The $2.95 million project includes fixing two landslides, roadway reconstruction, drainage improvements, guide rail upgrades, pavement marking installation and other related miscellaneous projects.

PennDOT said the overall project is expected to be completed later this year.
