St. Joseph Catholic School students and staff want to show their communities how much they are appreciated.

The Verona-based parochial school at 825 Second St. will host its inaugural Community Appreciation Day from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 19.

Principal Tina Bucci said she expects people from Penn Hills, Verona, Plum, Oakmont and surrounding areas to attend the free event.

“Our faculty and students support many community programs and participate in several service projects,” she said. “Our students will be offering tours of our amazing school. All of our visitors will have the opportunity to experience the awesomeness of being a part of the St. Joseph School community.”

Free breakfast pastries, coffee and juice will be available until 11:30 a.m. Free hotdogs and fries will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

First responders will have their emergency vehicles on display and planned activities will include two story time sessions and two STEAM activity sessions for children in addition to face painting, craft vendors and raffles.

The school raised more than $600 for Diocesan Chimbote Mission and $1,000 for UMPC Children’s Hospital Child Life Department.
