Light Up Level Green event planned
Light Up Level Green, like so many activities, will be different this year with a drive-through Promenade Pajama Party, from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Level Green Fire Hall, Route 130.
Visitors are encouraged to wear their pajamas. Santa Claus will welcome visitors, who will remain in their vehicles as they drive around the fire hall parking lot and view the Christmas tree.
The Penn Trafford Community Band Holiday Ensemble will perform and there will be designated parking spots for those wanting to stop and listen to the music. Visitors are asked to follow the direction of the volunteers.
Santa’s helpers will deliver a craft and snack bag for every child and children are asked to bring their letter and “wish list” for Santa as a special North Pole mailbox will be on site. Letter writers are asked to include a return address if they want Santa to write back.
The free event is sponsored by the Community Women’s Club of Level Green along with the Lions Club and Level Green Volunteer Fire Department.

P-T student group is national finalist
A group of Penn-Trafford High School students were recognized as one of the 15 finalists in the annual Broadcast Pacemaker competition by the National Scholastic Press Association.
Penn-Trafford was the only Pennsylvania school to reach the finalist stage. Its entry in the competition was an episode of “Wake Up Warriors,” a daily newscast by the school’s television production class. The 10-minute show consists of news, sports, announcements, interviews and live guests. Nearly all of the students who worked on that episode from the 2019-2020 school year have graduated and are in college.
The Pacemaker awards originated in the 1920s, and broadcasting emerged as a new category in 1996 because of the growing importance at the high school level.
“The writing, editing, hosting and the willingness to tackle relevant topics make these exceptional newscasts from start to finish,” said Gary Lundgren, NSPA associate director and contest coordinator.
“It’s truly an honor to be in the company of the best high school broadcast programs in the country,” said Steve Vinton, high school teacher. “It’s even more of an honor to know that Penn-Trafford students committed to excellence on a daily basis and delivered.”
Brush Run Road bridge project plans to be displayed virtually
The public can take a virtual view of the plans to replace the Brush Run Road bridge spanning Manor Borough and Hempfield Township, PennDOT said.
The project information, anticipated design and construction schedules, and a location map will be part of the virtual display of the plans, which can be accessed on the PennDOT website until Dec. 7. To access the webpage visit www.PennDOT.gov/District12 click on thepublic meetings link under the district links heading, pick the Westmoreland County box, and then choose SR4012.
The single span concrete arch bridge that carries State Route 4012 over Brush Creek is to be replaced by single span steel girder bridge, PennDOT said, requiring a detour during construction.
The project is in the preliminary design stage, with final design anticipated to begin in spring 2021. The state expects to advertise for bids in spring 2023 with construction in summer 2023.
