Group collecting for wreaths on veterans’ graves
The Community Women’s Club of Level Green is raising money to place fresh wreaths on the graves of about 6,750 veterans buried in four North Huntingdon cemeteries Dec. 19 as part of the Wreaths Across America program dedicated to remembering those who have served the country.
The initiative will assist Wreaths Across America-North Huntingdon, in placing wreaths on the graves of veterans buried at Irwin Union, Immaculate Conception, Long Run and Penn Lincoln cemeteries, said Wendy Waugh, local coordinator for the North Huntingdon chapter of WWA. With the addition this year of Penn Lincoln Cemetery along Route 30, Waugh said they have raised the fundraising goal to $101,250.
A donation of $15 will pay for a wreath on a veteran’s grave. Sponsors can choose to have a wreath placed in honor or in memory of someone, said Lisa Lotito, vice president of the Woman’s Club. Wreaths sponsored through the Women’s Club can be placed in the local cemeteries, as well as Arlington National Cemetery outside Washington, D.C.
