Pine Community Park was buzzing with activity Sept. 20.

The township’s annual Touch-a-Truck event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. featured plenty of opportunities for youngsters to get an up-close look at public safety and public works vehicles. A quiet period was held the first hour to accommodate children with sensory sensitivities.

In one of the event’s most anticipated moments, children were invited to place their painted handprints on a public works snow plow.

“Touch-a-Truck is a great way for families in Pine Township to connect, explore and enjoy a hands-on experience with a variety of vehicles,” said Gina Kampi, recreation program coordinator. “It’s events like this that bring Pine Township residents together and make our community such a special place to live.”

Inside the Pine Community Center, the Pine branch of Northern Tier Regional Library was celebrating its first birthday.

“The one-year anniversary of the Pine Center is an exciting milestone for our community,” township Manager Jason Kratsas said. “ ‘A Very Pine Birthday Party’ was a fantastic way to celebrate a space that has quickly become a vibrant, welcoming hub. We’re proud of all that’s been accomplished in just one year and grateful for our strong partnership with the Northern Tier Regional Library as we look ahead to even more growth and impact.”

Visitors to the library were treated to cupcakes, a scavenger hunt and the chance to buy gifts to support the library from its giving tree.

“Our first year at the Pine Center has been terrific and we couldn’t be happier. Circulations have increased by more than 110% since we opened our doors, and we are able to offer programming for patrons of all ages,” said Diane Illis, director of Northern Tier Regional Library. “The Pine Community Center is an ideal location — the perfect venue for our little library. We can’t wait to see what the next year brings.”
