Progress is being made on the new turf fields in Pine Community Park. Capital program manager Stacey Graf gave a progress report on the fields at the Feb. 6 Pine board of supervisors meeting.

She said that the contractor has finished moving all the soil and has leveled the site to final grade. The curb has been installed around the perimeter of the field and is awaiting stonework. Turf will be installed during March.

“April 1 is the goal for the new turf installed to be playable,” Graf said.

The board motioned to table the playground replacement at the new turf fields. Township manager Jason Kratsas explained that the delay would allow the parks department more time to shop around and find an affordable option for the new playground’s wood fiber surfacing.

The original playground is directly adjacent to the splash pad and the new playground will be located near the new parking lots. The comet spinner, orb rocker and swings were removed from their old location and will be reinstalled in this new space. In addition, a new play structure will be added to the space. However, no decisions have been made on the new structure.

The recommended build will be presented to the board of supervisors on Feb. 21.

Also on Feb. 6, the board voted to approve the proposed splash pad sprinkler/irrigation system project. Kratsas said that this project “has been on the design front for some time now.”

Previously, the parks department used a water cannon to keep the grass and turf area around the splash pad in good shape. Rain Tec, LLC was awarded the bid for the project for $19,895.

Pine Township residents will have the opportunity to offer feedback and suggestions for Pine Community Park at an upcoming open house at the Pine Community Center. The community has a chance to review the Park Master Plan with local stakeholders on Feb. 23 at 6 p.m.
