Association of University People events

The Association of University People invites singles over 50, who are four-year college graduates, to join them for activities and to meet new people. Activities include monthly dinners, social gatherings, concerts and day trips. Those interested can attend three activities as guests before joining. Hidden gems of North Park

Pine Creek Land Conservation Trust, North Area Environmental Council and Friends of North Park are hosting an event at 7:30 p.m. June 27 at the Rose Barn in North Park. Park Ranger Samuel Shephard will present information and photos on the Hidden Gems of North Park. The event is free and open to the public.

Spotted lanternfly public meeting

Learn how to recognize the spotted lanternfly and help stop its spread by attending a public meeting sponsored by Penn State Extension from 2:30-5:30 p.m. June 10 at Parish Hill Barn on Walter Road in McCandless.

The spotted lanternfly is an invasive insect that has spread rapidly throughout Pennsylvania since 2014, threatening the state’s grape, tree fruit, hardwood and nursery industries.

The series is aimed at providing residents, municipal officials, park and public works employees and landscape professionals with research-based and accurate information on the impacts of this nonnative pest. For more information, visit extension.psu.edu.

Vacation bible school

Ascension Lutheran Church in McCandless will hold vacation bible school from 5:45-8:15 p.m. July 10-13. Registration is available online at myvbs.org/ascensionpgh. For more information, visit ascensionpgh.com.

Salem Church in Pine invites all children ages 4-11 to Vacation Bible School July 30-Aug. 3 from 5:30-7:45 p.m. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with others in the community and the kids always have a blast. Plus, to add to the excitement, this year we are welcoming PGH Crepes and Beedles Ice Cream trucks. Registration is $40 per camper. Scholarships are available by emailing CommunityLife@salem-umc.org.
