The steady rain May 13 did nothing to keep Pine residents away from celebrating the Pine Athletic Complex opening.

The grand opening event, Party at the PAC, featured food trucks, raffle baskets, bounce houses, games, prizes and entertainment. There was a ribbon cutting for the new turf fields and playground.

Food truck offerings included Bruster’s Ice Cream, Aviva Brick Oven Pizza, La Palapa, Brisketburgh, The Coop Chicken Waffles, and Hermes Food Truck.

The festivities kicked off with a flag raising. WTAE meteorologist and Pine resident Jeff Verszyla acted as emcee. The 56 East Band provided musical entertainment throughout the day.

All of the Pine supervisors were in attendance.

Pine Richland youth and varsity football, baseball and softball association, girls’ field hockey, boys’ lacrosse, girls’ lacrosse, boys’ soccer, girls’ volleyball, youth and varsity cheer, and the soccer club had tents and activities set up at the event.

Highlights included Pine Richland mascot Rammy’s victory over Pierogi Pete in a foot race, former Pittsburgh Steeler Shaun Suisham’s workshop for kids on how to kick a football, and The Wexford Volunteer Fire Company’s potato sack races.
