Pine-Richland area student news for the week of March 14, 2023
Eighteen Pine-Richland High School art students recently won 61 awards in the regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition. The awards are considered the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious fine arts awards for students. Gold and silver award-winning works were displayed at Carnegie Mellon University’s Fine Arts Building. On Feb. 25, students were honored in an award ceremony. Gold Key Award winners move on to national judging, which will be announced in March. Gold Key Award winners included: Pine-Richland High School senior Kayla Karmanos, senior Kate Lindrose, junior Riley Turner, junior Ella Guo, senior Noah Moskala, and junior Katherine Beck.
Pine-Richland High School seniors Abby Ewing and Catrina Knox, along with freshmen Brooke Deegan and Elizabeth Liebe, were honored regionally in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition for poetry. The awards are considered the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious fine arts awards for students.
Meg Patterson, a junior at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, made the dean’s list for the fall 2022 semester.
Jordan Hepler was named to the dean’s list at the University of Mississippi for the fall 2022 semester.
Pine-Richland High School seniors Sreryashi Mondal and Liam Gastonguay were honored by the Rich-Mar Rotary on Feb. 15 for outstanding student achievement and community service.
2017 Pine-Richland High School graduate Jake Pederson will make his Broadway debut starring opposite Ben Platt as Frankie Epps in “Parade.” The musical opens March 16 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.
Pine-Richland High School senior Katie Yanni earned two President’s Volunteer Service Awards: a gold award for 252.5 hours of volunteer service during the 2021-2022 school year and a bronze award for completing 101.5 hours of service this school year. The President’s Volunteer Service Award recognizes the important role of volunteers in America’s strength and national identity and honors individuals whose service positively impacts communities in every corner of the nation and inspires those around them to take action.
Pine-Richland students named December/January Students of the Month at A.W. Beattie include sophomore Jessica Bui, culinary arts; and senior Bradley Menke, veterinary sciences.
The 2023 SkillsUSA Pennsylvania District 8 Competition was held Jan. 13 and 16. Senior Mark Wolfe (automotive technology) won a silver medal in automotive service technology. Senior Robert Aguglia (advertising design) won a bronze medal for T-shirt design. Junior Alijah Christner (carpentry/building construction) advances straight to states for Career Pathways Showcase: Industrial and Engineering Technology.
