Pine-Richland student news for the week of March 7, 2023
On Feb. 7, Pine-Richland High School senior Sreyashi Mondal was honored as part of 18 Under Eighteen for Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania at an event at Acrisure Stadium. This honor highlights the notable talents and achievements of 18 of the region’s most incredible young people. Sreyashi was selected for her work in STEM, particularly her role in Girls of Steel, as well as her work with MIT alumna and Pitt professors analyzing COVID indicators, which led to her receiving the Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair Certificate of Excellence Sponsor Award.
Pine-Richland High School seniors Abby Ewing and Catrina Knox were honored regionally in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition for poetry. These awards are considered the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious fine arts awards for students. Catrina won a Gold Key Award and Silver Key, while Abby won a Silver Key and Honorable Mention. As a Gold Key winner, Catrina will move on to national judging. Regional winners were recognized in a ceremony in February, and national awards will be announced in March.
Donald Professori was named to the dean’s list at the University of Findlay for the fall 2022 semester.
Elana Arnold and Lauren Rearick were named to the president’s list at Saint Francis University for the fall 2022 semester. The following Saint Francis students were named to the dean’s list: Madison Curran, Lauren Dzialowski, Richard Kaminski, Vittoria Laros, Sophia Mellis, Jillian Minsky, Christian Tsounos and Emma Zawalnicki.
Megan Gallager made the dean’s list at Ithaca College for the fall 2022 semester.
Catherine Mercier graduated from Ithaca College in December with a bachelor of science degree in exercise science.
The following students were named to the dean’s list at Rochester Institute of Technology for the fall 2022 semester: Jillian Antol, Austin Smith, Parker Schubert, Nathan Begly, Nathan Skomo, Christina Yarbrough, Tom Catalano, Kiernan O’Neil, Parker Bell, Louie D’Angelo, Kira Welker and Andy D’Angelo.
Anna Mele made the dean’s list at Dean College for the fall 2022 semester.
Jay Comas graduated in December from Miami University of Ohio with a master of arts in teaching degree, majoring in biological science.
The following students made the dean’s list at Grove City College for the fall 2022 semester: Joe DeLuca, Austin Garrett, Nora Russell, Morgan Smith, Rebecca Tomasino, Caroline Dawson, Cole DeFillippo, Anna Haynes, Lexi Reed and Tori Stewart.
Lilly Bogacz made the president’s list at the College of Charleston for the fall 2022 semester.
Joseph Wiethorn, Ryan Beranek, Sean Connolly, Mary Evankovich and Nora McKee made the dean’s list at John Carroll University for the fall 2022 semester.
Michael Zappa and Lia Meijer made the dean’s list at Emerson College for the fall 2022 semster.
Pine-Richland High School played host to the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Region 1 Choir Festival on Feb. 24. Nearly 170 students from 55 Pennsylvania school districts participated. Singers from Pine-Richland include seniors Rylee Branscum, Layney Chapman, Drew Delaney, Bethany George, Gina Giordano, Sophia Giordano, Ava Grande, Sofya Greig, Grace Hazlett, Sydnie Jones, Korey Moore, Mollie Owen, Julia Phillips and Madelyn Rickard; juniors Chloe Chiang and Owen Russell, sophomores Mackenzie Mercuri and Tessa Rodgers, and freshman Katelyn Rickard.
