Richland resident Justin Lee takes his son to play soccer at Richland Community Park, so when he heard that the field had been vandalized, he was concerned.

“My son is in the under-5 group for soccer and they practice at Richland Community Park. When I saw what had been done to the field, I contacted the police department to see what could be done and to file a police report,” Lee said.

Lee expressed disappointment about the interference to the kids’ playing time on the field.

Northern Regional Chief John Sicilia said that the damage likely occurred on the evening of Sept. 11.

“We got the call on Sept. 12 and went out to investigate. A car was used to drive up onto the soccer field and disrupt the playing surface there,” Sicilia said.

The Richland Public Works department has already planted and reseeded the damaged areas of the field.

“Grass should be growing there in 10-12 days. All that’s left to seal the deal is a good rain,” Richland Public Works superintendent Jerry Reichart said on Sept. 18.

Field repairs came to just under $2,900.
