Pine-Richland Middle School musicians earn awards

Pine-Richland Middle School’s choirs and orchestra competed in the Music in the Parks festival on May 10 in Hershey, earning an array of awards:

• 7th/8th Grade Orchestra — first place, Middle School String Orchestra with a Superior rating

• 7th Grade Choir — first place, Middle School Mixed Choir II with an Excellent rating

• 8th Grade Choir — first place, Middle School Mixed Choir I with a Superior rating

• PRfect Pitch — first place, Middle School Women’s Choir with a Superior rating

• PRfect Pitch — Best Overall Middle School/Junior High Choir

Pine-Richland Middle School also was awarded the Esprit de Corps Award, given to a participating organization that displays an exemplary attitude of positive support and outstanding personal behavior throughout the festival weekend.

The orchestra is under the direction of Dave Belchick, and the choirs are under the direction of Lee Rickard and Heather Flora.

Eleven Pine-Richland High School Spanish students placed on the National Spanish Exam. More than 15,000 students took the Level 3 test this year.

Sophomores Davin Biagini and Maddy Dorigo earned Gold Awards, scoring higher than 95% of test takers. Sophomores Brooke Deegan and Alexis Ross earned Silver Awards; sophomores Cori English, Isaac Kraus and Anastasia Punosevac and ninth grader Sara Alvarez earned Bronze Awards; and sophomores Giuliana DeRenzo, Adam Proctor and Jonathan Sweet earned honorable mentions.

Contest finalist

Eden Hall fifth grader Aanya Patel was named a finalist in the Highmark Caring Place’s 2023-24 Caring Team for Grieving Students poster contest.

A representative from the Caring Place presented Aanya with a certificate and $25 Amazon gift card on May 14. This year’s theme was “How to Help a Grieving Friend.”
