Donald Trump makes a fist gesture towards the crowd after being shot in the ear during an attempted assassination at a rally Saturday, July 13, 2024 in Butler. Trump was running for president at the time.

Six Secret Service agents were suspended over “failures” during a July 2024 assassination attempt on President Donald Trump — then a presidential candidate — at a rally in Butler, ABC News reported.

The suspensions were confirmed just before the one-year anniversary of the July 13 shooting, which left Trump’s ear injured, one rallygoer dead and two others seriously injured.

According to ABC News, the suspended agents ranged from “supervisory level to line agent level.”

According to NBC, the special agent in charge of the Pittsburgh field office, was among those suspended. The Pittsburgh office was responsible for coordinating security with local law enforcement ahead of the rally at the Butler Farm Show grounds.

The suspensions ranged from 10 to 42 days, ABC reported, and agents were given a right to appeal.

At least two agents are appealing the suspensions, CNN reported, and none of them have served their suspension yet.

Officials quickly launched investigations into how a 20-year-old nursing home aide was able to scale a nearby roof and fire an AR-15 rifle at Trump. A bipartisan congressional delegation visited the site in the days after the shooting and criticized the lapse in security.

Thomas Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park opened fire during the Butler rally, striking Trump in the ear, killing rallygoer Corey Comperatore and seriously wounding two others before a countersniper killed him.

Then-Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned after the shooting, and officials have made various recommendations for improvements in Secret Service operations.

Trump returned to Butler in October to hold another major rally just months after the assassination attempt.
