A 64-year-old man died after his tractor-trailer overturned and went partially over a hillside in Jefferson Hills on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Jefferson Hills police responded to Payne Hill Road just before 4 p.m. Wednesday to find an overturned rig roughly a quarter-mile from Jefferson Boulevard.

A downed telephone pole and live wires made it impossible for police to initially reach the driver. Once medics were able to get into the cab, Joseph N. Tanck, who was the sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The truck was carrying a load of steel coils, some of which rolled down the hillside and partially blocked Route 51 for a brief time, but there were no other injuries, according to a police release.
