A family of five escaped unhurt after a fire spread to their Wilkinsburg home early Thursday morning.

Firefighters responded around 2:30 a.m. to a 911 call for a fire in the 1700 block of Laketon Road, according to police.

Firefighters arrived and saw flames coming from an unoccupied home. The fire escalated to three alarms when it spread to two neighboring homes, one of which was occupied by the family.

The Red Cross is helping the displaced family, police said.

While no one in the family was hurt, police reported one injury from the unoccupied structure. No information about that person, or why they were in the otherwise unoccupied house, was provided.

The fire was contained around 5 a.m., police said.

The fire remains under investigation.
