120-year-old restored Victorian house for sale in Greenfield for $689K

The minute you turn onto the street it catches your eye — the 120-year-old Victorian home with the wrap-around white front porch on Winterburn Avenue in Greenfield.

The house has been completely renovated from top to bottom with all high-grade, top-of-the-line finishes while preserving the integrity of the house, said realtor Gail Murman, from Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices.

“The owner respected the history of the house,” she said. “He kept some of the original design, but totally gutted the inside to open up the floor plan. He replaced the roof, insulation, siding and built a deck. It’s an interesting house. Everything is top of the line. That porch is reminiscent of New Orleans or Savannah.”

The open floor plan for the $689,000 abode will allow the new owner unlimited options to furnish it. All the original fireplaces and staircases remain.

The house was purchased in 2018 and the owner invested more than $500,000 into the 2,895 square feet of space.

The owner installed wide plank light-gray hardwood flooring and two separate heating and central air conditioning systems.

The kitchen includes a huge center island with a granite countertop and state-of-the-art stainless steel appliances and a plethora of cabinet space.

Outside is a brand new deck perfect for hosting barbecues or parties or enjoying a view overlooking the Parkway East and across from Schenley Park.

There are three spa bathrooms upstairs and a first-floor powder room, as well as a second-floor laundry room. There are five bedrooms – three on the second floor and two on the third. Two chandeliers sparkle above the staircase.

The house is double-insulated.

The many windows allow for an amazing amount of natural light.

There is a paved driveway and off-street parking as well as an adjacent lot that’s part of the sale.

“It has a clean, contemporary feel,” Murman said. “It is ready for the new owner to put his or her touches on it. Because it is so open, there are so many different ways you can furnish this house.”

It’s priced higher than houses in this part of the city, but the area has become popular because of its proximity to Downtown Pittsburgh and Schenley Park, and is easily accessible to the Parkway, Squirrel Hill, Oakland and Monroeville.

“It is amazing city living,” Murman said. “This house is so elegant. Greenfield is such a unique location.”
