A 13th resident died from coronavirus at Kane Community Living Center’s Glen Hazel location, according to data from Allegheny County.

At least 110 residents at the long-term care facility have been tested for covid-19, and 71 have tested positive. Four tests are pending. A total of 174 people reside in the facility on Rivermont Drive.

Forty-four of the ill residents have recovered. Kane officials consider a resident recovered if it’s been at least two weeks since the onset of symptoms, they’ve had no symptoms for three days, and a doctor signs off on deeming them recovered.

In addition to the residents at Glen Hazel, 42 staff members there tested positive for the virus, and 27 of them have since recovered. One employee at each of Kane’s other facilities in Scott, McKeesport and Ross tested positive, and one resident tested positive at McKeesport.

The virus was first reported in Kane’s Glen Hazel location on March 25, when an employee tested positive. Two residents tested positive two days later.

Kane officials plan to hold a news conference at 11:30 a.m. today.

Nursing homes have been hit hard by covid-19, which hits the elderly and those with underlying conditions particularly hard.

Of the 3,416 coronavirus deaths across the state, 2,355 were in long-term care facilities, according to state data. Of the nearly 53,000 cases diagnosed statewide since March 6, 10,506 were in 514 care facilities. Another 1,489 care home employees also contracted the virus.

In Allegheny County, 90 long-term care residents died from covid-19, according to the Department of Health. There have been a total of 315 cases across 37 care facilities, and 102 employees tested positive.
