2 more Kane Glen Hazel residents die of coronavirus; total now at 18
Two more residents have died from the coronavirus at Kane Community Living’s Glen Hazel location, according to information from Allegheny County and Kane officials.
Eighteen residents have died at the county-run facility since the outbreak began in late March.
Of the 174 residents who live in the Glen Hazel facility, 114 have been tested for covid-19, according to the data. Seventy-six have tested positive, and two tests are pending.
Seven residents have been hospitalized with the virus, and 50 have recovered. Kane officials are considering a patient recovered when it has been more than two weeks since the onset of symptoms and they have gone three or more days without any symptoms. A doctor must also sign off on the recovery.
Along with the 76 residents, 42 employees at the Glen Hazel facility have tested positive. A total of 79 employees have been tested.
One employee has tested positive at each of Kane’s other facilities: Ross, McKeesport and Scott. One resident in McKeesport has tested positive, where one resident test is pending. Two tests are pending among Ross residents.
The virus was first reported in Kane’s Glen Hazel location March 25, when an employee tested positive. Two residents tested positive two days later.
