Two Steel Valley School District employees have been told to stay away from school property as a precaution related to the threat of the spreading coronavirus.

The employees are required to distance themselves until the incubation period of the virus has passed and they are cleared by a medical professional, the school district covering Homestead and Munhall said on its Facebook page.

Steel Valley’s Facebook post said it learned the two employees, who were not identified, traveled to a foreign country where the coronavirus has been transmitted. The post did not reveal which country the employees had visited or what jobs the employees hold within the district.

The strain of coronavirus, also known as novel coronavirus (COVID-19), is a respiratory illness that causes symptoms such as fever, cough and shortness of breath, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The symptoms may appear in as few as two days or as long as 14 days after exposure. Reported illnesses have ranged from people with little to no symptoms to people being severely ill and dying, the health department said.

There were 12 travel-related confirmed coronavirus cases in the United States as of Friday, the state health department said.
