Six people, including three children, were injured Thursday afternoon when a car collided with a Port Authority bus near the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh’s North Side.
Five passengers on the bus were injured as well as the driver of the car, according to Port Authority of Allegheny County spokesman Adam Brandolph.
None of the injuries were considered to be serious, Brandolph said. Port Authority police are investigating.
According to Brandolph, initial reports indicate the car sped through a red light, crashed into the bus and came to rest upside down.
The crash occurred at the traffic light at East General Robinson Avenue and Sandusky Street at about 3:15 p.m.
“When the bus and the car collided, the bus sustained very minor damage,” Brandolph said. “The SUV flipped over onto its roof.”
The crash prompted authorities to temporarily shut down East General Robinson Street, between Vulcan and Factor ways, and Sandusky Street, between Isabella and Lacock streets.
The driver of the SUV, whom officials did not immediately identify, was taken to UPMC Passavant hospital in McCandless.
Medics took two other adults to Allegheny General Hospital in the North Side, and three children were taken to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, according to Port Authority officials. Officials did not provide their ages.
Further updates on their injuries were not immediately available.
