The Allegheny County Health Department on Thursday reported three new deaths in the county from flu complications.
Two of the people were in their early 70s. The third person was in his or her early 60s. All of them had underlying medical conditions, according to a statement from the health department.
The health department did not release any further details.
There have been 15 flu-related deaths in the county this season.
“Although the focus right now is on covid-19, this update is an important reminder that flu activity remains high in our area and across Pennsylvania,” the department stated.
There have been 12,577 cases of flu and 146 hospitalizations in Allegheny County as of March 7, according to the health department. Last season, there were 4,651 cases of flu, 117 hospitalizations and six deaths.
Officials urged people to practice health habits like staying home if you’re sick, covering your mouth and nose when you sneeze, washing your hands, avoiding shaking hands and routinely cleaning frequently touched surfaces.
