Pittsburgh police used pepper spray to subdue three people accused of assaulting an officer early Sunday in Homewood South.

A woman and two boys were arrested following the confrontation that happened before 2:30 a.m. on Collier Street. No one was seriously injured when the woman punched the officer in the face and the male suspects joined in the assault, police said.

The three suspects, whom police didn’t identify, were taken to a hospital to be medically cleared and were facing charges of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and obstruction, police said. City officers were treated at the scene for exposure to the pepper spray.

Two Zone 5 officers who were on patrol had seen a group of people chasing a male on Collier, near Idlewild Street. The group became confrontational when the officer approached them to investigate, police said.

As the confrontation developed, additional officers from Zones 4 and 5 were called for backup.

Police said they were told the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute.
