One person was injured in a three-vehicle crash that snarled traffic on Route 28 near the Highland Park Bridge exit during Tuesday’s evening commute, officials said.

Emergency dispatchers received a report of the crash in the highway’s southbound lanes near Aspinwall at about 5:20 p.m., an Allegheny County 911 shift commander said.

Shortly after 6 p.m., one southbound lane of Route 28 remained closed while officials waited for tow trucks to clear the wreckage. Traffic was crawling on Route 28 and nearby Freeport Road from Sharpsburg to Blawnox.

Medics took one person by ambulance to a nearby hospital, the 911 shift commander said. The extent of the person’s injuries was not clear.

State police from the Kittanning station are investigating the cause of the crash.
