412 Food Rescue to distribute food in Clairton on Friday, Pittsburgh's North Shore on Saturday
412 Food Rescue will distribute free food on Friday and Saturday at different locations.
Friday’s distribution will serve Clairton residents, and Saturday’s distribution will be held on Pittsburgh’s North Shore.
Each household will receive a box of fresh dairy and produce from local donors.
“Our strategy at 412 Food Rescue has always been to get food to where people already are,” said Senior Program Director Jen England in a statement. “During covid-19, we’re connecting the USDA’s Farmers to Families food boxes with our region’s highest need communities.”
Produce boxes will be provided from local donors Schneider’s Dairy and Chelan Fresh, according to a news release.
Friday’s distribution in Clairton will take place at Clairton Middle/High School from 1-3 p.m. Drive-up distributions will occur on Large Avenue, and walk-ups will occur on Waddell Avenue. It is being held in partnership with Economic Development South and Clairton City School District.
Saturday’s distribution will be held on Pittsburgh’s North Shore the Gold Lot 1A parking lot. It can be accessed from Art Rooney Avenue.
People will be served who drive up in cars and those who walk to the distribution site.
For cars, volunteers will place food directly in the trunk. Walk-up attendees will find directions for a no-contact pickup at a table in Gold Lot 1A. The address is 792 West General Robinson St., which is between the North Shore T station and Heinz Field.
It is being conducted in partnership with Pirates Charities, ALCO Parking, Thrive 18 and Project Destiny.
Since March, 412 Food Rescue has added close to 2,900 new volunteers to its Food Rescue Hero app, distributed more than 12,000 meals to bus stops in Pittsburgh and Sto-Rox School District, started a home delivery program and distributed food boxes to more than 1,100 households in Pittsburgh and Beaver County.
