4th Port Authority employee tests positive for covid-19
A fourth Port Authority worker has tested positive for covid-19, authority officials said Friday.
The bus driver, who has been on light duty since Feb. 12 and works out of the East Liberty garage, self-reported the test result, according to the authority. The employee is at home after last working early on Thursday, April 9.
A maintenance crew was sent to perform a deep cleaning of the East Liberty garage and the buses the employee would have been in contact with. The Port Authority also reported the information to the Allegheny County Health Department.
The authority said it would not provide further details in order to protect the employee’s identity.
The three previous employees who have tested positive include two drivers who work at the West Mifflin garage, which was similarly cleaned.
Crews also have been cleaning and disinfecting vehicles daily. Passengers are required to board via the rear door as an added precaution.
The authority and its union agreed last month that employees held out of work because of virus-related issues would continue to be paid with medical certification.
