Uncork it

The Senator John Heinz History Center in the Strip District tonight will host its 21st annual “History Uncorked: Out of this World” soiree for young professionals. The event features live music by The Uptown Woods, a dance party hosted by DJ Bamboo with pop-up performances from Pittsburgh rapper Mars Jackson throughout the night. There’s also delicious food from a dozen local hotspots. Partygoers can enjoy tarot card and astrological readings and stargazing with Buhl Planetarium.

This year’s theme is inspired by the Smithsonian’s must-see “Destination Moon: The Apollo 11 Mission” exhibition with runs through Monday. Developed by the National Air and Space Museum and the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, it explores the Apollo 11 moon landing mission through more than 100 one-of-a-kind artifacts, including the Command Module Columbia.

Take a ride

The Pittsburgh International Auto Show runs through Monday at the David Lawrence Convention Center, Downtown. Presented by the Greater Pittsburgh Automobile Dealers Association, the show features a wide variety of new, classic and exotic vehicles in a non-selling environment. Thirty-four manufacturers will be showcased from Acura to Volvo. The galleria exotica includes Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin and Maserati.

There will be impaired driving demonstrations, a blood drive, meet and greets and acoustic performances. The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix will feature a few vintage and classic vehicles.

Soup’s on

The South Side Soup Contest is an annual fundraising event hosted by the Brashear Association. It operates two community food pantries in the South Side and Arlington to help those in need. The Saturday event, from noon to 3 p.m., began as a way to showcase the South Side’s businesses, will include soups at 23 locations, including Bonfire Food and Drink, Double Wide Grill, Ruggers Pub, and The Urban Tap. Attendees vote for their favorites.

Make the cut

The ninth annual Shear Da Beard is tonight at Jergel’s Rhythm Grille. Once again, former Pittsburgh Steeler Brett Keisel will have his beard cut to help raise money to benefit cancer programs for UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Special guest will be the Steelers Cam Heyward, who will also shear his beard. Entertainment provided by Donnie Iris and Totally 80’s. There will also be surprise celebrity barbers.

Elvis hasn’t really left the building

“The Legend of Georgia McBride” which opened Thursday, at Barebones Black Box Theater in Braddock takes the Elvis impersonator to a new level — Elvis leaves the building and returns as a drag queen.

The play, celebrating its opening weekend, was written by Matthew Lopez and making its Pittsburgh premiere, tells the story of Casey, a young Elvis impersonator struggling to make ends meet. When he is fired from his gig as an Elvis impersonator in a small town Florida bar, he’s forced to take a job as a lip-synching drag queen and accidentally becomes one of the most sought after drag queens in the Panhandle.

“The Legend of Georgia McBride” also marks the return to the Pittsburgh stage of actor David Conrad of “The Ghost Whisperer” and “Agents of SHIELD” fame. He last worked with Jordan on “Burn This,” produced by Conrad at the New Hazlett Theater in 2009. In “Georgia McBride” he plays the bar owner who decides to bring in a drag act to save his business.
