5 things to do in Pittsburgh this weekend: Feb. 14-16
Valentine’s Day is Friday so make it a weekend to remember with the person you love. Some people might have three days off because Presidents Day is Monday. Here are some things to do in Pittsburgh.
Sparkle and shine
The Frick Pittsburgh in Point Breeze will present “Maker & Muse: Women and Early Twentieth Century Art Jewelry.” The exhibit opens Saturday.
It’s organized by the Richard H. Driehaus Museum in Chicago. “Maker & Muse” encompasses more than 200 examples of art jewelry — including necklaces, pendants, brooches, buckles, tiaras, and other items of adornment — by makers such as René Lalique, Charlotte Newman and Louis Comfort Tiffany. The exhibition celebrates the impact of women on the innovative and imaginative jewelry of the turn of the twentieth century,

Have some laughs
Ron Funches is known as a triple threat. He’s a stand-up comedian, actor and writer. Catch him Friday through Sunday at the Pittsburgh Improv at the Waterfront in Homestead.
Funches’ voice has been used for “Trolls,” “Bob’s Burgers” and “Adventure Time” and he’s appeared in “The Goldbergs,” “Black-ish,” “New Girl,” “Transparent,” “Powerless,” and “Undateable.” Funches has been on “Conan,” “The Tonight Show,” “@midnight,” “Chopped,” and “Cupcake Wars.”
His writing credits include “The Eric Andre Show,” “Kroll Show” and several television pilots. He currently has a one-hour comedy special on Comedy Central.

Take her for a spin
The Pittsburgh International Auto Show opens Friday at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Downtown. The event showcases a variety of new and classic cars, trucks, crossovers and sport utility vehicles in a non-selling environment. You will see the latest cars from McLaren, Ferrari and Lamborghini. Auto manufacturers will display the latest in safety features to address distracted driving.
Other events include an impaired driving demonstration, engine revving between a Ferrari and a Lamborghini, musical performances by Elias Khouri and the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile.

‘Beauty and the Beast’
Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre presents “Beauty and the Beast,” which opens Friday at the Benedum Center, Downtown. The performance is an old French fairy tale which was turned into a magnificent ballet in 1958 by Lew Christensen and the San Francisco Ballet. The Pittsburgh ballet’s artistic director Terrence Orr began his career with “Beauty and the Beast.”
Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre revived the show in 2015 after acquiring the costumes and sets from San Francisco Ballet with the support of special grants from local foundations.
William Moore played the Beast in 2015 and will do so again in the upcoming performances.

Go boating
The Gateway Clipper in Station Square on the South Side has several opportunities to spend the Valentine’s Day weekend. The first is a “ Captain’s Buffet” at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday with a disc jockey playing ‘70s, ’80s and ’90s tunes. There is a “Moonlight Dinner Cruise” at 10:30 p.m. Friday and an “Ice Princess Valentine’s Ball” at 10 a.m. Sunday.
