Six people were arrested Saturday in Pittsburgh’s South Side during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
Public Safety spokesman Chris Togneri said in a news release that a public works employee was uninjured when he was struck by a car at East Carson and 17th streets by a restaurant employee who was leaving work. The public works employee was evaluated at the scene and not transported to a hospital. No arrest was made.
According to Togneri, the offenses in the six South Side arrests were:
• One for possession with intent to deliver
• One for fleeing and eluding and criminal mischief
• One for disorderly conduct and public drunkenness
• One for disorderly conduct
• Two for disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and resisting arrest
Crowds were smaller than usual, and aside from the city’s recommended precautions, some popular St. Patrick’s Day Pittsburgh hangouts took their own precautions.
Mullaney’s Harp & Fiddle Irish Pub in the Strip District — a popular post-parade destination — allowed only 140 people inside and 340 outside. Manager David Regan said he wasn’t expecting the same crowds as previous years because of the coronavirus concerns and the parade’s cancellation.
