6 more coronavirus deaths reported in Allegheny County
Six more people in Allegheny County died from the coronavirus, county health officials said Friday, bringing the countywide total to 18.
Allegheny County Health Department initially reported a total of 20 deaths Friday morning but later corrected an error in the data.
All of those people were over the age of 65, according to a statement released by the Allegheny County Health Department.
The 29 new cases reported Friday bring the county’s running total to 788.
Of those who tested positive for the virus, 124 have been hospitalized at some point, 49 required admission to an intensive care unit and 26 have needed a ventilator.
The number of new cases reported each day during the past week has ranged from numbers in the 30s to more than 70: 39 new cases reported Thursday, 31 on Wednesday, 47 on Tuesday, 37 on Monday, 53 on Sunday and 76 on Saturday.
A new county health department web page includes additional information about the total number of tests administered countywide and a map showing the municipalities and city neighborhoods in which people diagnosed with covid-19 live.
Within Pittsburgh, Squirrel Hill South has the highest number of cases at 18. Among other municipalities, Richland has reported the highest number of cases at 40. There are 22 reported cases in McCandless and 20 in Penn Hills.
The map does not include the number of tests administered in each neighborhood.
It also does not include any information related to the race of those tested, those diagnosed with covid-19 or those who have died from complications from the virus, but county officials have said that they are working to analyze racial demographics and to address any inequalities in testing.
Note: This story was updated to reflect the error in data reported by Allegheny County.
