An Allegheny Health Network medical professional administers a sample collection for a Covid-19 test at their mobile testing site in the Hill District on May 21, 2020.

Allegheny Health Network’s mobile covid-19 testing unit will be in Duquesne on Friday as part of its initiative to reach underserved communities.

The testing site will set up outside Duquesne Elementary School at 300 Kennedy Avenue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This latest round of testing is part of an initiative, launched earlier this month, to provide access to care for a wider and more diverse range of patients, AHN said.

So far, the mobile unit has served patients in Pittsburgh’s Homewood and Hill District communities.

“Ensuring everyone is able to get tested for covid-19 is absolutely essential,” said state Rep. Austin Davis, whose district includes Duquesne. “Unfortunately, this virus has impacted minority populations across the commonwealth the hardest. Now, more than ever, is the time to take action and ensure our most vulnerable populations have equal access to testing.”

According to AHN, to undergo covid-19 testing at its mobile clinics, patients should either be experiencing symptoms consistent with the virus – including fever, cough and shortness of breath — or believe they are at risk due to contact with someone with a confirmed covid-19 diagnosis.

A physician’s order is not required for an appointment, but an appointment is necessary. Patients can make an appointment by calling AHN’s 24/7 Nurse On Call-line at 412-687-7348.
