Allegheny County officials reported 45 additional cases of covid-19 and six more deaths Thursday, bringing the total to 1,439 confirmed or probable cases and 117 deaths countywide.

That’s compared to 10 additional cases and seven deaths reported Tuesday and 19 additional cases and two deaths reported Wednesday. The 45 cases mark the biggest single-day increase in reported cases in two weeks.

The increase in the number of cases reported Thursday is due to delayed reporting from a new lab, and those positive tests span several days, officials said.

The county reported no new deaths Monday or Sunday, which could have been the result of a delay in reporting over the weekend.

The youngest person to have died from the coronavirus in Allegheny County was 42 years old and had underlying conditions, county officials said.

Of the 254 hospitalizations in recent weeks, at least 106 people were admitted to an ICU and 62 have required a ventilator.

More than 19,000 people have been tested countywide, according to county health department data.

Pennsylvania Department of Health officials reported 310 more deaths statewide Thursday, bringing the total to 3,416. There have been 52,915 cases of the coronavirus in Pennsylvania.
